I want to touch on the Rockies. I'm still mourning the unnecessary loss of Matty...I will be for awhile. I am happy that my beloved Atty aka Garrett Atkins will still be here barring some epic disaster, though this particular signing seems to be very drawn out....
Anyone who knows me knows that I have loved the Rockies since I was a very little girl and most of all in my Rockies love has been the players themselves, none more than Mr. Atkins himself. I have liked #27 since he first appeared in the major leagues. He seemed like a good, honest, hard-working player who spent much time in the shadow of his more famous friends such as Matt Holliday and Troy Tulowitzki. That was just another thing to like about him...his ability to be such a team player. He also was thought of as a temporary solution to the need of finding a 3rd baseman, since number one pick Ian Stewart, was down in the minors. However, Atkins showed he was more than just a fill-in and put up great numbers. Meeting him in person, I wasn't disappointed. I admit to having somewhat of a crush on the man, but that is for many reasons and is not why I follow him. He seemed to be genuinely nice and down to earth... very flattered by any fans who liked him in particular. He always seems to sign long and often for fans at games. I think I was also drawn to him as a fan, because I have always been taken in by players with consistancy. Atkins has shown that over the years through his consistant stats and games played in, earning him the nickname of everyday Atty. I admit I am somewhat biased, but there are some facts about Atty that can't be disputed.
As far as the contract goes, Atkins has stated repeatedly that he wants to stay here in Colorado. Along with that, there have been articles about teammates, Troy Tulowitzki in particular, stating the importance of him staying here. Not to mention he is the strongest bat in our lineup with Matt Holliday gone and has shown flexibility by moving from 3rd to 1st when needed. It has been held against Atkins that he turned down a long-term deal a few years ago (considered by many, to be very cheap) and that he spoke out about teammate Jeff Francis' contract, feeling Francis got ripped off. That being said, it's time for the management to get over it. He wants to sign a long-term deal, his agent has spoken out about it and he is one of the only players who has spoken out and said that he still feels that this team can compete like they did in 07', despite the changes and struggles of the last year. The Rockies have given long-term contracts to Hawpe, Corpas, Tulo etc., but haven't revisited one with Atkins. Even with having a disappointing season in his own words in 08', Atkins still led the Rockies in many categories and no doubt had numbers that were influenced by the injuries of the majority of the position players. And after all, isn't having a player who always wants to improve as a team and an individual, a plus?
I guess, I personally just get really angry when I read stuff about Atkins being "greedy" and "not a team player", "we should trade him" etc. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it would be nice if they had the info to back it up. If you look at Atkins' stats alone, they are comparable to some of the great players in the game today, including one mentioned recently, Justin Morneau of the Twins. I am familiar with what Morneau has done, since the Twins are my second baseball team/AL team...it's not too shabby. Because Atkins/his agent are asking for around what is an average market value for a player of Atkins' years/numbers, they are being seen by some as greedy. In my opinion, if you see these two as being greedy, you should see the large majority of baseball players/agents that way.
Also, I don't believe most people have researched Atkins' agent, Jeff Blank. Blank is a friend of the Atkins family. He met Atkins during his time at UCLA, when Blank was in a sports position there, and became an agent afterwards. Scott Boras he is NOT. An agent's job is mainly to take care of their client , try to help them with what's in their best interest and make sure they do not get screwed over/taken for granted. Blank is only doing his job. I don't see Atkins as a slouch on his own either when it comes to money matters. He has said if he wasn't a player, he would probably be a GM or something having to do with money. Atkins is known for being good at math, he isn't stupid.
Lastly, I want to state the importance again of loyalty. Other players have come into the Rockies organization with large contracts recently, such as Vizcaino and most recently Huston Street, with little or no playing time as a Rockie. I have nothing against these guys personally, but just think about Street's situation. He is coming in to compete for the closer's role with Manny Corpas. I don't know how Street will play...of course as a fan I hope he is great. He is slated to make 4.5 million,almost exactly the same as Atkins made last year as a position player who played nearly every single day with great numbers who has been with the team for years....doesn't exactly seem fair.
The point of this post...yes Atkins can live on the 6.6mil. the Rockies are offering him, or less than that, along with every other ballplayer. Going on principal, market value, and loyality, however, the Rockies should at least meet in the middle with a player that has done so much for them.

School is really ticking me off right now. It isn't for lack of effort regarding my studies, as I believe I have put more effort into my studies in this semester than any other, at the very least I have put more effort into this term than any other in the BEGINNING weeks! And despite basically having all my gen eds and required classes done, it is irritating that I can't take any other journalism courses (being as it is my major and I actually like doing it) because we have a limit on how many jmc courses we can take...but of course I did have to take that last required journalism course....mass comm law. Thrills and chills children. It isn't as if law is a totally boring subject or irrelevant in general, but the terminology is making me a little crazy. I pride myself in having a good vocabulary and reading level, but the combination of the other classes right now, along with the fact that the teacher is starting to piss me off, really isn't helping. In regards to the prof, I am annoyed because I spent the majority of the last 24 hours pouring over a several page court case and writing a legal brief, which was difficult but I got through it ok. But that wasn' t the end of it, no sir. I arrive to class about two minutes before it's supposed to start and he starts class early AND lets us out late! Not to mention that he spent the majority of the period making us take a guap of notes and then decides that we have to get into groups based on where we are sitting to analyze more cases and contribute more to us getting out late. A good 7 minutes late. Oh and did I mention I was in a group with a guy I went on a terrible blind date (the only blind date I have ever agreed to) with?! The group was fairly large and not very talkative fortunately. Normally stuff like this wouldn't seem like such a big deal, but my massive schoolwork overload (despite taking mostly gen-ed lower level classes, go fig,) has sent me into a negative whirlwind and due to recent convos I have had lately, I have been doing a lot of studying and worrying about my future instead of going out and having a good time. I am all for being a hard worker, but I like my life to have a balance and to spend my time doing a variety of things.
I do have a new crush, not a biggie, but he is decently cute I guess. I don't know much about the guy, other than he has good looks, bartends parttime, is preppy, skittish, and seems to be obssessed with wearing blue and white all the time....I always have to pick the ones who have odd quirks lol. He might be a player though...we shall see.
I think the other reason/side effect that has happened as a result of all this, is that not only is all this schoolwork bogging me down as far as my social life goes, it's contributing to other things as well that are even more basic. I feel exhausted after all the school stuff and just crash into my bed, still fatigued and wake up feeling drained. Therefore I wind up sleeping in more and not putting as much effort into my appearance...basically just trying to get up and get through class and my assignments/tests. Now I realize everyone has days like this and if you know me, you know I am not very vain. I am comfortable being in my sweats etc. and it is not a big upsetting factor if I have a hair out of place etc. However, I do like to look cute and work out etc. and do take pride in my appearance. I also tend to feel more confident which I feel like I need more confidence and the like right now. Plus things with the majority of my friends has seemed perplexing lately...not any one huge event, but it seems like all these little things are just getting on my nerves. And of course the icing on the cake is that everything in my room is in a huge mess (more cluttered than dirty), which I am usually overly worried about, but it's driving me nuts. Oh and more school stuff due and a day full of classes tomorrow..joy.
I think this is worse, because despite how I sound right now, I am usually the eternal optimist with the Disney/childlike attitude of believing in your dreams and all that jazz. It's not that everything is SO bad right now, I think I just want something really good to happen...

pynk_spyder ! :) Troy, Matt, and Garrett in their formal wear, need I really say more? ;)As for other news, I was feeling icky and stayed an extra day at my mom's instead of going back up to school for my Tuesday classes. Bad I know, but I had a terrible headache and really didn't want to have any problems driving to add to my stress. In spite of this, I actually have spent a decent time on school work in the last couple days...including spending time doing a long reading for a 4 question quiz for my online quiz. Yes, I kind of find it perplexing to have to try and pick out what might be the 4 little questions out of a large amount of material, but I did ok on said quiz and I guess it's just something I am going to have to live with since there will be more little quzzes. I am still happy I don't have class on fridays now. In fact I am really looking forward to going to the Rockies game Friday. Former Rockies LaTroy Hawkins and Kaz Matsui of the Astros will be on hand to get their NL champs rings and I will be there in person to dork. Plus of course being there to dork over the usual guys...everyday atty, his pal matty, and of course the bunnynose (Troy)!
The Rockies have been doing well lately which has made me extremely happy and even more enamoured with them. Jorge De La Rosa or the thorn of the rose as I affectionately call him has become a new big favorite of mine and his 4-0 shutout of the Giants on Monday has really given me a positive outlook. I have to have something in addition to spending time with my friends to offset the afforementioned school stress.
Basically the thing that is bothering me about school is the spontaneity that has ensued from my profs in this being my final semester of college. Normally, a little surprise in my life doesn't bother me, but I like to be informed when it comes to stuff that's due. I am taking 15 credits this semester, which is what I usually take, so there shouldn't be a big overload that I'm not used to. However there has been a lot of vagueness and a lot of mention of "pop quizzes" and the like in my syllabi. In one class, SEVENTEEN surprise quizzes! Now they aren't a huge percentage of my grade, but that number makes me a little worried. Also, the online class has this routine of making you check to see if you have a quiz on monday after 3pm and if so, you must be done by 10am the next day...same on wednesday for thursday. Which is not all that bad, except these quizzes do require a large amount of reading...and I guess I just wish we could have a list of the quizzes so that I could be prepared for them and make my schedule around them. It's not like I am not going to do the readings, since we will get tested over them. The other school related thing that "got my goat" was something I got in my school email. I have been checking my school email extremely moreso than I did in any other semester since I was instructed to by my profs. So I checked it tonight before I went to bed and found an email from my woman's study prof. She sent it around 8pm (as in a few hours ago). Anyway the email detailed info regarding times to go watch a film for the class she had listed as part of the hw for Sept.9...I figured since the date was next week, probably the screenings would be next week...Erm, no. They are for tomorrow (technically now today) and one the next day. Two of the three are when I have other classes and the other time is early tomorrow...argh. Since I have a 1-2 hour drive ahead of me followed by class and a couple errands, I was really kind of hoping I could take my time getting up there (my class is in the late afternoon)...I emailed her about the times being tough for me, so I am hoping she will respond and give me another option. I have more to talk about, but I am going to bed, so perhaps more later.

1. Have you ever been to Disneyland (Anaheim, California)?
Yes of course or I wouldn't be doing this survey!
2. If so, how many times?
Five trips each with 2-6 days spent in the parks to Disneyland and once to Disney World...I really wish and intend to go more times to both! :)
3. What is your favorite ride at Disneyland?
As for some favorite rides and attractions: I love the Pinocchio ride most but also: Peter Pan ride, Dumbo, The snow white ride, Storybookland Canal Boats, Small World, Roger Rabbit ride, Pirates of the Carribean, The Haunted Mansion, the tiki room, Indiana jones, Splash Mountain, The Matterhorn, The nemo submarine ride, the matterhorn, casey jr. circus train, buzz lightyear astro blasters, Toad ride, Winnie the pooh ride, Disney Gallery, Disneyland:the first 50 years, the Disneyland gallery, Reindeer Roundup (only there around Christmastime), Star Tours, Big Thunder Moutain, Davy Crockett canoes, Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, teacups, jungle cruise, all character interactions, tarzan treehouse, gadget's go coaster, the characters' houses, Autopia, the monorail, The Disneyland Railroad, Innoventions, Astro Orbiter,Honey I shrunk the audience, aladdin's oasis...basically everything there lol! And all the fireworks displays and parades and shows!
4. What is your favorite land in Disneyland?
I really love all the lands, but I would have to say Fantasyland
5. What is your least favorite ride at Disneyland?
I know it sounds really nerdy, but I like all of them and don't think I have a least favorite.
6. What is your favorite place to eat in Disneyland?
The Blue Bayou, Carnation Cafe, The Plaza Inn (which also has a character breakfast that yes, I do go to) and Stage Door Cafe inside the Golden Horseshoe where you can watch a stage show and eat.
7. Have you ever shared a "romantic moment" in Disneyland?
Not me personally, because I have only gone with my family. I would however like to and was witness to a marriage proposal at Aladdin's Oasis which is a little place in adventureland where a live and in costume Aladdin and Jasmine tell Aladdin's story! :)
8. Do the fireworks bring a tear to your eyes?
Always, it never fails! Because of my family memories at Disneyland/Soundtrack to the Disneyland fireworks I always tear up.
9. Do you think that people who dislike Disneyland should be shot?
I don't know about shot, but I went on a date with someone who disliked it and I will say I never went out with them again. I think people who dislike it are crazy though!
10. Have you ever been to DCA (Disney's California Adventure)?
Yes and despite the fact that it is criticized by a lot of people I actually really like it.
11. Favorite and Least Favorite rides of DCA?
Again I wouldn't say I have any least favorite. For rides and attractions I really enjoy: the Monster's Inc ride, the Tower of Terror, Soarin over California, Disney Animation, Golden Dreams, The Aladdin Show at Hyperion Theatre, all the bug's land rides, and the Orange Stinger.
12. Favorite place to eat in DCA?
Ariel's Grotto...yes I'm 22 and I like character dining with the princesses, go me lol! :)
13. Ever been to Downtown Disney?
Yep!
14. Favorite shop at Downtown Disney?
World of Disney store of course!

Rainforest cafe!
16. What is your favorite treat to get at Disneyland?
Pineapple whips at the Tiki Room and Disneyland popcorn in a souvenier tub! Yes I am a Disneyland nerd!
17. Have you ever been to any other Disney parks around the world? If so, which was your favorite?
I have been to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom all at Disney World in Florida. I love Disneyland and Disney World like crazy and have a ton of family memories from both, but Disney World will always be special (especially Epcot) because it was the last trip I got to take with my dad.
18. Any other memories about Disneyland you'd like to share?
I could talk about memories at Disneyland for days, but I will share a few somewhat general things. This will probably get really geeky and corny, but whatever. I am a big Walt Disney/Disneyland history buff so I know a lot of the history about it and therefore am very sentimental about the fact that Walt Disney created a place where families can go that has something for everyone. I have a ton of memories at Disneyland and Walt Disney World with my parents. I have been at Disneyland on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve among other times. I know that at times these places get crowded, but I have actually found that it is so nice to visit with people you meet while standing in line or sharing a table or waiting for fireworks or whatever. Also the people who work at Disneyland as cast members are very friendly and interesting to talk to. I really agree with the idea that Disneyland is so much an American culture icon, but at the same time it such a great place to experience things with all sorts of people from all over the world. All these different people of all backgrounds and ages. are put together to experience riding pirate boats and singing "yo ho a pirate's life for me" or singing "it's a small world after all. I know it really sounds nerdy, but Disney has been such a important part of my background, that it has shaped my personality. Because of my time spent in the disney culture with my family I realize how important it is to believe in my dreams and to have hope for tomorrow. It is something that I try to share with people that I know and plan to share with my future children and husband.

Do you have trouble deleting your text messages?: I know how to, but I just usually let them "delete themselves" as when I get one it replaces my least recent saved one.
What hurts more, to forgive for someone's wrong-doing or to regret something you did wrong?
It depends on what it was. I would usually say that I have a harder time forgiving myself.
How many different houses have you lived in throughout your life?: So many...it's in the double digits (my dad was in the military etc.)
Do you lose your keys easily?: not as much as I used to
What hurts the most?: ...This question can be interpreted a lot of ways. I would say losing a person that you love.
When at the computer, is it hard to type in the dark or do you NEED a light on?: I prefer a light on usually, but it isn't that hard to type in the dark
How are you right this second?: Apparently just being an insomniac as usual, but I'm good
Would you rather go to a baseball game or a football game?: baseball
Is there anything you disliked about your birthday this year?: I wasn't able to really relax and enjoy it as much as my previous one since I had a lot due for college
Would you rather buy a CD from a store, or burn it off of the computer?: for one particular artist it's a lot easier to buy from the store, but for a mix I go for the computer, so both I guess.
Is your room clean and tidy or messy?: lol, do you know me?! It's pretty messy, but I have been trying to clean it, I just have too much stuff and don't part easily with it
If you were to win a vacation to anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be to?: Hmm...I have more than one, I love any warm locale especially Cali and Florida as far as the U.S. goes and want to go to Hawaii. As for other countries Austraila, Japan, Italy, China, Paris and England are high on the list.
Is there something that you haven't told anyone that you actually would like to tell someone?: I'm usually pretty open, I can't think of much that I haven't told someone...I guess I can tell you all that I have a bigger celeb crush now on that guy Kenny Santucci from the Real World/Road Rules Challenges even though I can't explain why really hahahaha...

If I see a person I am into, I would probably want to be dressed nicer ideally, but it's not like a person you date or hang with for any amount of time won't see you in your sweats sometimes, so if they do it's ok.

What is your favorite TV show?: I really like TV when I need to relax, so I watch all sorts of stuff. I really do like One Tree Hill. Lately I have been really into mtv reality stuff, especially the Real World/Road Rules Challenges, maybe it's because of that Kenny Santucci guy haha. I also like South Park,MADtv and Family Guy for a good laugh. I never miss Grey's Anatomy, The Hills, or Rockies All Access either haha.

I have really been trying to be calm and not let all the bullshit things that don't mean anything bother me, but it's starting to add up. I love my mom dearly...and god knows she has done a lot of shit for me especially recently, but she is driving me up the wall! My parents' house is huge, but I feel like I have no space or privacy. I should be so happy...I am not working this summer when everyone else I know is and I myself have worked every summer at a job since I was in 8th grade. I took this time off to better my health, fitness, and to try to help my mom around here. Those things are achieved, but not consistently...and honestly more time is spent involving me going on my mother's errands. Yes, my mom insists and literally raises hell if I don't go with her on every trip to king soopers, walmart, and the like. It's not like I mind doing it on occasion and she does do a lot for me, but there isn't much time spent apart. Also, quite honestly, when I run errands it doesn't take me nearly as long and I don't go nearly as frequently she does. A 1/2 hour is a very long time for me, but for her it's like 5 minutes. I guess its my mom and I will find a way to deal with the situation, one way or another.
I am also just upset about a relationship with a friend of mine. I was going to divulge into it, but now i don't feel like it. More to come on this situation later possibly.

I also had a nice morning/afternoon on Saturday with my best friend, Jessa and her mom, Sally. We had waffles and they gave me a mickey shaped waffle iron which I love! Did I mention I love waffles?!?! We also went to the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall which was really good. In order to see it we had to go to a new theatre. Said new theatre was very cool and unique, since it had an admission price of $9 which included free popcorn and free soda for each person! There were also big armrests inside the theatre which had a space for your snacks as well as your drink. It was neat..we all think we will go back there again. Jessa, Sally, and I have also embarked on the Fitness Challenge plan which starts today actually. There is a list of 20-30 minute fitness activities that we can do to earn a star for each particular day and the third day of excercising in a week counts as 3 stars, moving you up to a total of 5 and then goes back to one star for each individual day. There will also be rewards for the challenge..YEAH! We are keeping track of it on google calendars which I have found I really like using haha. Anyway, of course it is always awesome to see Jessa and Sally, since they are two of the people who know me best in the world. I guess it's not that surprising that your best friend since 7th grade would know you so well haha. Jessa and I will probably be going to Elitch Garden's with her Dad and stepsiblings soon as well, which I am totally revved about since I haven't been there literally in years.
I have actually done a decent job of keeping in touch with friends and they haven't done a bad job with keeping in touch with me. I went up to Greeley to pay some bills and clean my apartment and also helped Ginny paint her room in her new house. It was good seeing her and she appreciated the help. The only minor problem is that just as my new friends asked me to go to the mets game a couple weekends from now, she announced her housewarming would be on the same night as one of the games, but it will all work out hopefully hehe. I was a little worried about my friend Sarah, but she has just been busy since her school runs during the summer and she is working as well. We will hang out when things calm down for her. I finally got in touch with Laura last night and we had a long phone convo. Even though a lot of things have changed since Laura I first became friends, she is still as awesome a buddy as ever and is totally supportive of me. I need to call Johno since he hasn't been able to get a hold of me much lately. Even though, she is headed to Arizona, MaiLe and I have been in touch through text and computer as well. I talked to Abram and will hear more soon about his new dog and recent trip to Cali. Kalina and I have met up at a few Rockies games and kept in touch on the computer. I need to drop some of my online friends a line, because they do mean a lot to me as well. :)
In regards to the fitness challenge and in general to my health, there are a few updates about my health. I had a physical on friday and in addition to getting a chicken pox shot (since I have never had them)which I am still having an itchy/painful/red rash reaction to, I have been told I need to reduce my stress and get off of at least some of the medication I take for stress and headaches. I also really need to better my diet and lose a significant amount of weight, which in combination with all the things I have to help my mom with regarding the house and cleaning, has led me to the decision that I will probably not be working this summer. It is the first summer I haven't worked since 8th grade and I am now heading into my last semester of college, so I really don't feel guilty. Most people my age don't play the same role in a parent's life that I do to my mom, since my dad passed away and I have no siblings. I really don't mind doing it, but it takes up as much time as a job would quite honestly, and I need to get into healthier habits for fall semester. I have also been taking a lot more time to read and develop myself into a more well rounded person.

I know teams go through ups and downs, but before we go through some more downs lets go through some ups. Not to single anyone out, but Helton and Hawpe, please come back to planet earth and help the team, meaning not going a combined 0-8 like tonight. And Tracy Ringolsby for god's sake please do not start this Holliday trade bullshit, as well as the now-common trade Atkins and Fuentes talk. Because I guess instead of being 12 games out of the division and eons below 500, we want to be 0 for the season in wins. Why dont we trade Cook while we're at it since we want everyone who is contributing gone baby gone. I am in the middle of what is supposed to be a great weekend, that I have been looking forward to for months, where my two favorite teams in the world are playing each other. Instead I have to hear about our franchises best players in trade threats and we can't win a game. Hurdle needs to step up and fire up this team or someone else does. Get your act together! Show me that more than a couple people on this team have 1/4 of the fortitude and heart they had last year!
